Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of actor Anil Kapoor, has just made her debut in Bollywood with Sawaariya. She assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the filming of 'Black'. Sonam was never interested in acting. Direction and writing were her basic interests, but Sanjay Leela Bhansali showed so much confidence in her that he wanted her to be in his film. She loves to dance and is trained in Kathak, classical music, and Latin dance. She is fluent in Sindhi, Hindi, English and Punjabi.

Here's what Sonam looked like when she weighed 90-odd kgs

Sonam Kapoor's weight loss has been often discussed, but the actress kept her overweight pictures neatly tucked away. Now, for the first time, Sonam has shared a photo of her plump days. Kapoor is the Crush of the Month for fitness magazine Men's Health.

Apart from being the Fantasy Cover girl of the month, Sonam has also opened up and talked in detail about how she was determined to lose weight. Kapoor lost 35 kgs during her transformation.

Have mom to thank
Talking to the magazine that's hit the stands she says, "We are from Peshawar - a city where rich food and eating with abandon are a way of life.I'm proud of my roots, but I realise it is neither practical nor healthy to live that way. Being an actor, I need to be healthy all year round. Having a health-conscious mother has been a blessing."

When asked how she ended up putting on weight Sonam says, "I put on weight in boarding school in Singapore, when Mum was not around to ensure I ate wholesome meals."

Keeping her fitness regime simple, she adds, "My mantra for weight loss: weight training, artistic yoga and power yoga, pilates and my Kathak training which is vigorous and helped me tone my body."

Supporting her effort to keep up on the right track and continue her fitness mantra her dad gave her a fat-free cake on her birthday. "I thought I had slimmed down enough, but my dad gave me a fat-free, sugar-free cake on my birthday this year, just to remind me that I am in an industry full of female actors who are slimmer than me!"

Sonam Kapoor learns to mind her tone!

Just if you've imagined Sonam Kapoor to be one of those star kids who's getting everything on a platter, think again.

The actress is working real hard to get into the skin of her character in Ayesha, a film that her father Anil Kapoor is producing. Mid-Day reports Abhay Deol and Sonam Kapoor are attending voice modulation workshops to 'get intonation and diction right'.

"Sonam plays the role of a high-society girl from Delhi. It's a first person account and a chick flick/romcom like Clueless and 13 Going On 30, told from the girl's point of view," the paper quotes a source as having said.

Working on Sonam's voice is popular Vagina Monologues actress Jayati Bhatia. The paper reports that Sonam Kapoor attends the workshop every day for almost five hours.

While the actress confirmed to the paper that she was attending workshops for her part in Ayesha, she refused to divulge any details about it.

Ayesha is to be directed by Rajshri Ojha and is said to be an adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Emma.

Ash play a wicked game with Sonam

Sonam Kapoor is terribly upset with Aishwarya Bachchan as the latter stood as a roadblock to her walking the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. Sonam who had been signed as a brand ambassador for L'Oreal and was to walk the red carpet a Cannes with other beauties including Aishwarya, Penelope Cruz, Kerry Washington, Beyonce Knowles, Eva Longoria and Scarlett Johansson.

The excited Sonam in an interview dug her own grave when she offended Aishwarya. Sonam had said would be endorsing the youth brand and Aishwarya would appeal to the older women. This certainly did not go down too well with the former Miss World who has been a face of L'Oreal in India for years. Ash refused to walk the red carpet with Sonam and the L'Oreal had to bow down before her demands.

L'Oreal on its part maintained that Sonam's comments had created a lot of adverse effect and to prevent any escalation of the controversy they had asked the Saawariya actress to stay out of Cannes. Well it can be easily understood on whose request Sonam missed a ticket to the Cannes. As for Sonam she surely will never let her excitement get over her mind in future.

Ash not behind Sonam's broken Cannes Dream

There were rumours that actress and L'Oreal ambassador Aishwarya Rai may have held back Sonam Kapoor from walking the Cannes red carpet. But sources close to the former beauty queen say she didn't even know that Sonam was to visit the French film festival.

"She (Aishwarya) did not even know that Sonam was going to be at Cannes because she was there for just two days (May 13-14) where her days were packed with back-to-back interactions with the international media, fashion shoots for various European fashion magazines and other business meetings besides attending all the events at the festival," a source close to Aishwarya said.

Anyone can go to the Cannes Film Festival as a visitor and that is how many in the film fraternity and normal public go from across the world.

Confusion ensued when L'Oreal issued a list of those ambassadors that were to represent the brand at the French festival and Sonam's name was missing from it. This, despite a formal announcement made by the company officials on Sonam's presence at the Cannes at a press conference in Mumbai on May 10.

Sonam, who was earlier set to leave for Cannes on Monday and was excited to rub shoulders with Aishwarya and Hollywood A-listers like Elizabeth Banks and Eva Longoria, finally did not go for the film festival when company officials asked her to stay back.

According to media reports released thereafter, Aishwarya was not very upbeat about the fact that Sonam would share the same stage with her as the face of L'Oreal and asked company officials to deny her the opportunity of being there.

But clarifying their decision of holding back Sonam to go for Cannes, a spokesperson from L'Oreal said in a press release, "We do not want to take part in or encourage any controversy involving our spokespeople. There were adverse reports in certain sections of media after some comments by Sonam Kapoor, which were presented out of context.

"Following this, in order to avoid further escalation, we have advised Sonam not to go to Cannes as was planned earlier, bearing in mind that there would be more interesting opportunities for future appearances in Europe for her."

Ash isn’t happy with hot Sonam

She has stolen many hearts even though she hasn’t made it big on Bollywood yet, but Ash isn’t impressed yet.

Ever since Sonam made a remark about Mrs. Bachchan, saying that she belonged to another generation, Ash has seemed miffed. She went on to blame it on Sonam’s immaturity and juvenile mindset.

If this wasn’t enough, former Miss World wants the young gun to apologise for making the statement. We say, before Pa Big B can shoot out at Sonam dear about her remark, he should help Ash come to terms with her age! She isn’t young blood any more, after all!

There was heavy rush amongst present photographers and electronic media to capture her on camera but after her initial few seconds of posing she didn’t show much interest in getting clicked. This disappointed a lot of still photographers who were expecting to catch more of her on their camera, as also because she was looking extremely pretty.

It was a full on Page 3 event of sorts what with top models from the fashion industry being present also along Bollywood A-listers such as Karan Johar, Ritesh Deshmukh, filmmakers Kunal Kohli and Dostana fame Tarun Mansukhani. Tarun and Ritesh for a long time were engaged in discussion about films. That actually left us wondering whether Ritesh was being roped in for Dostana 2.

Katrina Kaif Pips Sonam Kapoor to the Post

Katrina Kaif may have been often crticised for her thick British accent, but it seems to have worked in her favour finally. Kaif has bagged a role in Dibakar Banerjee next film, which Sonam Kapoor had her eyes on.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjinOgRwmNKsOjl8t72IZbD8-koL9fkb113gQ-KQy3YyADP5UpmfjYMc-exsGtgD0puXCbqcZmxIzO9J9gFL_50tdXX6ZMLAoH2gk4KTnIp7I0F6Qj3YiAPc58ucEYJbuhC3ZgitgYkGdk/s400/Katrina+Kaif_247.jpg

Sonam was extremely keen to work with the Oye Lucky Lucky Oye director and even though she had a reliable line of communication with Dibakar through his favourite leading man Abhay Deol (also the leading man in Sonam's home production Ayesha), she lost the role to Kat.

Apparently, the role in the film, which stars Imran Khan and Abhay Deol, was written with Katrina in mind.
Says a source, "Anil Kapoor was very keen to have his daughter work with Dibakar.

He even called the director home and showed him a show reel prepared for an international project.

The director is also keen to work with Sonam but he sees her as the archetypal Indian beauty. That's not what Dibakar's new Imran-Abhay romance requires."

Dibakar's heroine must be partly firangi, so Katrina with her firangi accent is perfect for the part.

For the film, Katrina would have to mirror her real-life personality. She is of mixed parentage, as is the character she portrays in Dibakar's untitled film.

Says the source, "Katrina approached Dibakar and expressed her desire to work with him.

As luck would have it Katrina is just the leading lady Dibakar was looking for. He really couldn't think of anyone else for the part."

Better luck next time, Sonam.

I don’t want to be just Arm Candy: Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is all for getting into the commercial groove after doing off-beat films and says she won’t mind playing Lara Dutta’s role in “No Entry” or Priyanka Chopra’s character in “Dostana”. But she is clear that she doesn’t want to be seen as just “arm candy” in song and dance sequences.

http://bollywood.celebden.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/sonam.jpg

“I’m all game for doing movies that are set in commercial parlance,” said Sonam, who is choosing her projects carefully.

“It’s a misconception that after films like ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Delhi-6′, I’m only looking at films with serious overtones. All I look for is meat in my role.”

“See, I have never looked down upon hardcore commercial cinema. It’s just that I never wish to be an arm candy who does four songs, a couple of scenes and then vanishes away from screen. Those are not at all the kind of roles that excite me,” added Sonam, who will be seen in her father Anil Kapoor’s home production titled “Ayesha”.

The 23-year-old may have suffered two box office failures in the “Delhi-6″ and “Saawariya”, but that hasn’t hampered her passion for movies.

“Give me a meaningful role and I will do it even if it is hardcore commercial. Who says Bollywood masala movies do not have good roles for heroines? Look at what Lara Dutta did in ‘No Entry’. Now that’s a kind of role that I certainly don’t mind doing,” she said.

Any other reference points?

“Priyanka Chopra’s role in ‘Dostana’,” she said promptly. “She was so good in the movie and the character was extremely well-written as well.”

Incidentally, Lara had played Anil’s wife in “No Entry” while Sonam’s “Delhi-6″ co-star Abhishek Bachchan was seen with Priyanka in “Dostana”.

No Rules for SRK: Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor may be just two films old, but she is choosy about her roles and has drafted strict guidelines for herself to sign movies.

http://img1.chakpak.com/se_images/15200_-1_564_none/sonam-kapoor-wallpaper.jpg

The young actress is, however, willing to make exceptions if the man opposite her happens to be Robert De Niro or Shah Rukh Khan.

"Well, why would one actually ask questions if paired opposite Robert De Niro?" asks Sonam with a mischievous smile. "You should consider yourself plain fortunate to just share a common frame with him. In fact, I will be happy to even walk past a frame featuring him. No questions asked. Period."

Sonam teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor in her debut vehicle "Saawariya" and she was seen with Abhishek Bachchan in her second film "Dilli 6". She is now looking forward to a movie with superstar Shah Rukh.

"He is another man for whom I will be so very willing to ignore my rule book. I would be more than happy to go ahead and sign a film if Shah Rukh happens to be my hero," says Sonam, a self-confessed Shah Rukh fan.

"There are exceptions that one makes about the size and content of the role when it comes to working with legendary actors; De Niro and Shah Rukh just fit the bill," she said.

However, when it comes to working on films with anyone lesser, Sonam certainly has her do's and don'ts in place.

"I don't intend to do films where all I am required to do is to dance in four songs and enact a couple of emotional scenes. By no means am I looking at that kind of cinema," she said.

Though the formal announcement of her next film is yet to take place, reports are that Sonam's next will be for her dad's production house. The film is called "Ayesha" and is based on Jane Austen's novel "Emma".

According to industry sources, Sonam will be making a complete about turn from her "Saawariya" and "Delhi 6" image and take on a completely new ultra-chic avtar. The film will feature Abhay Deol along with newcomer Arunodoy Singh, who will soon make his debut with "Sikandar".

Sonam and Imran Khan are meanwhile reportedly being considered by Kunal Kohli for his next film that would be directed by his assistant Danish Aslam. However, confirmation is still awaited around this young love story.
