Let It Snow Layout

February 2010 was a milestone month in Aiken, South Carolina.  We had snow.  Not just flurries or a dusting, but real accumulative snow!  We had enough snow on which to ride a sled, build a snowman (or five snow people like the kids across the street), and have a great snowball fight.  In the nineteen years that I have lived in Aiken, we had never had snow like this.  There was only one word to describe the experience:  magical!

I created the left page of this layout some time ago using the Gypsy for the Gypsy spot.  I had never created a matching right page.  At the Pre-birthday scrap bash on Saturday I made a matching page and added photos of our home in the snow storm.  At the time I was quite worried about the palm tree (see how sad and cold it looks?) but it weathered the storm nicely.

I love the dancing snow people from the Snow Friends cartridge.  I think they expressed our snow-happy joy quite well. I used Accent Essentials to create the large snowflakes and Winter Woodlands to cut the small snowflakes.  I used my snowflake nesties to create the date tag below.

The LET IT SNOW phrase was cut from Winter Woodlands using Bazzill bling cardstock.  I added blue gems to the centers of the snowflakes and pearls to the snow people.

The snowfall was so fun and I know we will be referring to it for years to come, in much the same way that hurricanes are "fondly" recalled.  Each time snow threatens for the next few years we will all recall the snow fall of 2010 and we will wonder aloud about the possibility of receiving that much snow ever again!

It's a Party at the Gypsy Spot

Okay that may be a slightly misleading title... But it is PARTY FAVORS at the Gypsy Spot!!!  This week's Gyspy challenge was to design a party favor.  I created a party favor bag for a tobogganing party - doesn't it just scream winter chill and fun in the snow?

Now this tobogganing party - it will NOT be happening here in SC!!  But these great little favor bags would be perfect for those in snowier climates to give the kids at the tobogganing party as well as to take along for members of your ski weekend!!!

I used a number of different cartridges to create this bag, welded shapes, and topped the design off with the frosty snow couple cut from Gypsy Wanderings.  Mr. and Mrs. Snowpeople look adorable on thier snowy background.

Gypsy Spot Week 2

I know it seems that I have been a slacker this week - it is Tuesday night and I still have last Friday's post at the top of my blog. I was away for the weekend - Beth and Sally had us to the lake for a scrap retreat weekend and it was fabulous (thanks Sally & Beth).  I completed 7-8 double page layouts, three cards and my Gypsy Spot week 2 challenge.  And of course we did go scrap-shopping!!!

The challenge at the Gypsy Spot for this second week was to weld a word and shape from two different cartridges.  I chose Winter Woodlands (Let it Snow) and Accent Essentials (Snowflake).  I layered both the snowflakes and the Let it Snow phrase with multiple cut.

Cupcake Anyone....?

Did you visit the premiere of the Gypsy Spot blog this week? On Monday the Gypsy Spot kicked off a new design team and projects created exclusively with the Gypsy. Just follow the blinkie on the left of my blog to see the FABULOUS projects.

Nilda instructed us to do a simple Gypsy project and I complied…. The other team member created amazing projects and might want to reevaluate what the word simple means – LOL. I am just kidding… their work is great!!!

I used the wonderful Cupcake cut from Gypsy Wanderings. I made this card before the copy, flip and weld feature had been repaired. I assembled the cupcake first, and then affixed the cupcake to the front of a brown A2 premade card. I used scissors and hand trimmed around the edge of the cupcake to create a shaped card.

Now that Provo Craft has upgraded the Gypsy software the copy, flip and weld feature is working perfectly. You know what that means for all of us Gypsy users? No more hand trimming!!!!!

Voting Continues - And So Does The Waiting....

The voting in the Gypsy 24-Hour Challenge Contest continues for another day.  If you have not already voted, please click the link and consider voting for my Hello Kitty Fall Football Fun.  The Stickles have a bit of glare in the photos, but I am actually quite pleased with this layout.  We all know that I adore Hello Kitty and Kitty as a Tiger cheerleader... Well she is so fierce... Not!

I promise to get back to regular posting soon, but for now I am riding out the contest.....

Thankful Layout - Gypsy & DS hybrid

My latest layout, Thankful, is yet another design for Thanksgiving. I have four scrapbooks that require pages for every family event/holiday - a page for each child's book and one for my book. I use similar photos for each layout, but I mix up the layouts to keep the scrapping fresh.

This layout is going into my book - because I am thankful for each of the people who will be featured on this layout!!! Also, I really like how this layout looks.

The layout was created using both DS and Gypsy. I cut the fabulous double layer leaves using the Gypsy's Gypsy Wanderings cartridge. The remaining elements were cut using DS. I used DS because I had already designed the title and squares in DS. I added the leaves to complete the layout.

A Couple of Gypsy Cards

I found a few minutes last Friday night to further explore and play with my Gypsy. I needed a couple of birthday cards to have on hand just in case they were needed (it was my husband's birthday and I suspected that the kids might forget to grab cards).

I love the cupcake cuts in Gypsy Wanderings, both the solo cupcake and the border. I thought they might make a cute card. I used the Happy Birthday cut from the same cartridge.
The second card used the owl from Gypsy Wanderings as well as letters from Gypsy Font.

Both of these cards were simple as I made them in a bit of a hurry, but both came out cuter than the photos show.

Learning to Use My Gypsy with a New Layout

My Gypsy arrived on Wednesday afternoon and I spent Wednesday evening registering, updating, loading cartridges, and getting to know the Gypsy. I found that like all new Gypsy users I had questions. My two top questions were 1) how do I move files back and forth between Gypsy and Design Studio and 2) how do I add additional pages to a gypsy file. After failing to find the answers I call my friend Diane, Capadia, and her answers were "you can't" and "you can't".

In the course of my conversation with Diane I think we decided that "you can't" should have a word added to the end... YET. I fully expect that we will be able to move the files back and forth in the future. I believe that Provo Craft is working on that issue.

I remember when I first loaded and began using Design Studio... I found it frustrating. I came to realize that like most software, it had a learning curve. I feel like I advanced well with DS. I suspect the same concept applies to Gypsy... There is a learning curve and we will all improve our Gypsy skills.

That being said, I completed my first layout using the Gypsy. I love the leaves on Gypsy Wanderings! I developed ideas for two Fall/Thanksgiving layouts using Gypsy Wanderings elements.
I have a busy weekend ahead, but I am looking forward to sharing more Gypsy ideas next week.

A Gypsy-Fun Evening and Day

I am going to confess right up front that I set the cable box to record the HSN Gypsy debut as well as set a reminder so that I would be parked in front of the TV at the appointed hour. I am also going to confess to being up FAR too late last night/this morning.

Provo Craft was celebrating their tenth birthday with the debut sales of the Gyspy handheld design device. They put together a special bundle of products for the release and, not surprising, sold out shortly after noon today. But they had a fabulous twelve hours! And yes, I made my purchase early, early this morning!!!
(COVER):

I am so excited to receive my gypsy... I said that I would set up an outpost in the front yard to stalk the UPS truck, but I fear the neighbors would talk.... and worry!!! And too, I have far too much to do with planning dh's birthday party (10 days away) .

I suspect that dh's party will not be as festive as Provo Craft's party. PC gave away a Gypsy, an Expression, and cartridges on Twitter last night. Yes, I signed up for Twitter to be part of the party!!! Dh's party will be more like SC BBQ, friends, gifts..... Poor dh!

Have you looked at the Gypsy Wandering & Gypsy Font cartridges? I opened Design Studio and previewed the cartridges... that got me even more excited. I like so many of the images on the cartridges...
You do know that there will be more in the gypsy in the future.... much more.... but for now I will close with an explanation of the project photos in this post. This is a card idea I am working on for the Grandmothers. Each family member will have a panel in this accordion card. Each family member will have to write a note on the pull out tag.

I think the Grandmoms will like this a lot as it will be personalized for each of them.

Happy Cricutting....
