She said yes - - Everyday Cricut Project

Happy Saturday everyone.  Sorry to have been MIA all week - I was dismantling my Christmas decor and working on some Spellbinders projects.

To make up to you for being gone all week I am the Saturday designer at Everyday Cricut.  Okay.  Really.  It is just my normal Saturday at the Everyday Cricut blog but I AM sharing!

This week's project is called, She said yes!  My older son proposed to his girlfriend during the Christmas holidays and Crissie said yes to marrying Aaron!  As you might have guessed, my husband and I are thrilled. This layout is one that I will actually use in their scrapbook, but the photos were quickie computer printouts.  The real photos are still being printed.

Batman Birthday Set

We had a birthday in our family last weekend.  We celebrated my son Aaron's birthday - my son Aaron's 25th birthday!  Aaron is a fun man.  He believes that Batman is the greatest super hero ever because he is sure that Batman has something in his bat belt to take out any other super hero.   Aaron and I had a conversation going on via facebook where we were debating who was better, Batman or Superman.  I thought (apparently in error!) that Superman could take Batman.  Batman is after all a mere human where as Superman is from another planet.  Superman can fly, repel bullets, has laser vision, etc.  Just as I finished stating my case Aaron informed me that he is sure that Batman keeps Kryptonite in his utility belt just in case Superman needs taking down!   Such intellectual debate!

It matters not that Aaron is 25, I decided that Batman should be the theme of the day.  One of Aaron's gifts was Converse All-Star high top sneakers - with Batman and Gotham cartoon print fabric!  Aaron is a high school teacher so I am sure his new footwear will be a hit with his students!  As the sneakers set the theme, I decided to let Batman be apart of his other gifts.  I found a Batman gift bag at a local store and it was perfect size for the hardcover book we had for Aaron. 

Using black, navy, cream and yellow cardstock I made a Batman birthday card and envelope.  I used Design Studio and welded two Batman heads together to create the card shape.  The face and mask elements were cut to size for the card.  A skin tone Copic marker was used to color Batman's face - though I did wonder if he should have a five o'clock shadow!  The Batman font was used on the card, except for the O; I used a circle and the bat emblem for the O. 

For Aaron's smaller gift I created the 3-D Gotham box from the Batman cartridge.  The box was super easy to make, even with my one change to the pattern.  The box is supposed to close under the bat emblem, but I decided to add sticky velcro under the light beam.

Aaron LOVED his sneakers.  He also liked his other two gifts even if they were not Batman related.  He laughed at his Bat card and gift box!!  Who would have thought that Batman would be such a hit for my son's 25th birthday!!  Well, actually I guess I did.  After all, I only purchased the Batman cartridge BECAUSE of Aaron!!!

As Promised - The First Peek at my Weekend at the Lake

Here are the first two layouts from my weekend at the lake - both layouts feature my older son or his activities.  The photo above and immediately below are of Aaron and his sweet, sweet girlfriend.  I used SEI Moravia paper, including one of the shaped pages in the kits.  I cut the shaped page in half-ish (60/40) and used part on each of the two pages.  I love this set of papers, they are so rich looking and they worked wonderfully for this late fall photo shoot.

The next two photos are from the Fleetwood Mac concert layout that I did for my older son.  Aaron, his girlfriend and his roommate saw Fleetwood Mac in Charlotte sometime last summer.  They came home with lots of photos of the band and no photos of the themselves.... Insert a big sigh here if you are a scrapping mom.  

These two pages were scrapped on Crate paper that I purchased at last summer's scrapbook convention - also in Charlotte.  I love this set of paper - the colors and the shaped cuts area wonderful.  There were lots of embellies included in the kit, but I suplimented with those by adding my own crocheted flowers and brads.  I think the flowers match so well that they look like they came with the paper!! 

I photographed several layouts as well as a new craft technique on which I have spent two afternoons this week.  I will share more on that later in the week.....   Yes, that is a tease to bring you back!!!!

Trip to Beaufort

Yesterday my husband and I made a trip south to Beaufort, SC to visit our older son.  We were celebrating his birthday a week late while meeting some of his friends and enjoying the area.  We had lovely outdoor lunch at a small sandwich shop that was FABULOUS - round sandwiches!  Dinner was at a local seafood establishment.... With THE BEST crab legs every!

We also did a little Christmas shopping while we hung out with Aaron and his girlfriend Crissie.  On the way to our Christmas shopping we did a littel half hour detour to the Old Sheldon Chruch ruins for a few photographs.  We had no idea that a wedding was getting ready to begin or we would have timed a visit a bit differently.  I spoke with the wedding planner who told us we had 20 minutes until the wedding so to feel free to grab a few photos. 

We quickly spent 10 minutes grabbing a few photos, though my son refused to relax due to the wedding. But overall I think we did okay for a ten minute photo shoot!
